Whether you know it or not, you have probably seen Brian Sakcriska's work. He's the main designer behind Savage South, a full-time freelance designer, a photographer, husband, father and all-around nice guy. Lately there have been some pretty big changes in the cards for this Jackson, MS hustler, and I took some time to have a little chat with him to get the scoop on all of his various projects. Pay attention kids, you may learn something...

Editors note: This is exactly how the interview went via myspace, hope you guys enjoy.
Sweet, well I want to do a few just ordinary/generic question like: Name, age, hometown?
Cory Meadows is my name i am from Lafayette, Louisiana.
How long have you shot pics?
I have been shooting for almost a year now.
What is your weapon(camera) of choice?
My weapon for digital is a Pentax k10d. When i shoot film i use a vivitar3800n. If and when i shoot medium format i use a Seagull and Holga.

What got you started on photography?
I don't really know what made me buy my first camera but i did and it was probably one if the best moves i have ever made.
So which came first the newspaper job or shooting photo?
I had already been shooting film for a couple of months when my friend asked me if i wanted to shoot for the newspaper. This was january 08 so that's when i finally bought into digital and got my Pentax and made me take my photography more seriously.
What kind of subjects/type photo (portraits, action stuff, landscapes, abandon buildings, etc) do you usually shoot and whats your fav?
I try to shoot everything i don't like just shooting one particular thing, but i guess i like shooting music the most because that is where some of my best work comes from and i like things that are intense and i like to catch that intensity on frames. I express myself through the pictures i take and i care if people like my work but i usually shoot for myself and i want to say thank you to anyone that has liked any of my pictures.

Anybody you look up to as far as photographers?
I don't really have anyone i look up to in photography, i do enjoy Keith Ramonouski and Walter P's work. They are sick. Lately I have been living to shoot. It has been keeping me going for the last month or so. I love this shit!
Well I guess that wraps it up. If ya got anything you would like to add or take out I'm down for whatever.
thanks a bunch,
jon
Clark Derbes & Wylie Sofia Garcia Video
Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:32AM
I guess it was my second year of college when I first saw Clark Derbes. There used to be an abandoned movie theater near the North Gates of LSU which became a legal graffiti wall. It was a pretty interesting place; artists, homeless people, truckers, students and just plain crazies hung out there at all hours of the night. I got into graffiti for a little while and one of the first people I saw out there was Clark. He definitely stood out. He's a tall, lanky, animated dude that had a really unique style of painting. Instead of doing the normal letter based graf he was painting huge robots that were pretty detailed and extremely original.
Over the last few years I have had the chance to hang out with Clark on several occasions and every time is a treat. He's a hilarious guy with plenty of stories to tell. He's been bouncing back and forth from BR to Vermont for the last few years, and right now he's in town (for a little while at least). Lately he's been working on a joint art show with Wylie Sofia Garcia titled "He Said/ She Said". The show opens up this Friday night at Plus1 Gallery. Jon and I had a chance to stop by and see what those two were up to. Here's a little video about the preparation for the show.

You can see more of Clark's work at www.annconnelly.com and some of Wylie's stuff over at www.myspace.com/wyliesg. Also, the music in the video is from AF the Naysayer who you can find at www.myspace.com/afthenaysayer. Hot beats coming at you from Lake Charles.
